DIY BATH BOMB..!! 🛁💣

Hello world,

As you read the title, this post is regarding creating bath bombs using easily available ingredients. Yes, I mean it, ingredients which one could get even during this lockdown. FYI, bath bombs are hard-packed mixtures of dry ingredients which effervesce when wet. They were invented in 1989 by Mo Constantine, the co-founder of Lush Cosmetics. The benefits of using a bath bomb in general are:
  • A bath bomb adds emollients and softeners to water. Regardless of your skin type, the ingredients of the bath bombs would leave your skin soft, supple and silky.
  • Bath bombs help to form an atmosphere of luxury and opulence.
  • Almost all bath bombs available in the market contain sodium bicarbonate and citric acid, these deodorize and repair skin. They also strengthen blood vessels.
I'll be making bath bombs without citric acid and Epsom salt. Let's proceed with the tutorial. I'll be making bath bombs without citric acid and epsom salt. Let's proceed with the tutorial.

Things Needed:
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cornflour
  • 2 ENO sachets
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil or a baby oil
  • 2 teaspoons of essential oil of your choice. You can make one at home. To know, read the post till end.
  • Coffee powder or Food colour
  • 3-4 tablespoons water
  • Moulds
    Ingredients
Step 1: Prepare the liquid mix. Add 2 tablespoon of olive/coconut oil and 2-3 teaspoons of essential oil. If you want colourful bath bombs add food colour to this liquid mix.
Water + Olive Oil + Essential Oil + Food Color (optional)

Step 2: Next, mix all the dry ingredients i.e. baking soda, cornflour, eno and coffee. If you are adding food colour, you don't have to add coffee powder with the dry ingredients.

Step 3: Next, add the liquid mix to the dry mix little by little to avoid fizz. Whisk everything nicely.

Step 4: Take a mould, sprinkle cornflour powder. Then scoop a good amount into the mould, packing it down. For mould, you can take any small bowl, cupcake mould or chocolate moulds.
Stuff the mix into the mould

Pack them tightly

Step 5: Let it sit and then turn it over. Your bath bomb is ready.

Benefits of the bath bomb made by me:
  • I have used olive oil as it is an antioxidant, moisturizer and contains vitamin A, D, E and K.
  • Lavender essential oil detoxifies the skin. Its aromatherapy benefits are: reduces anxiety, improves sleep, alleviates headaches and etc.
  • Baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, it also exfoliates the skin.
  • Coffee brightens skin and is an anti-cellulite body scrub.
Tips and Tricks:
  • The mould should be hard, a silicon mould won't work. I tried with the silicone chocolate mould, it was an epic fail.
  • Overfill the mould with the mixture, fill all the gaps/cracks and then remove the excess.
  • You can also gift bath bombs. Buy moulds in the shape of circle/heart. Fill one half of the circle/heart, insert your personal message (write a message in a paper and then cover it with a sellotape), then fill the other half and close the mould tightly.

  • To store the leftover mixture for future use, you can use small cream boxes or medium size boxes. The smaller size bath bombs can be used for manicure and pedicure while the bigger ones can be used for bathtubs.

DIY for essential oil:

Take a dark jar/bottle. Insert julienne of your favourite fruit/flower and then add almond oil. Keep this stored in a dark place for two months, the longer you keep the stronger oil you get. After the waiting period, strain the oil into another bottle and its ready to be used. Essential oils can be inhaled or diluted and applied to the skin. Aromatherapy with these improves psychological and physical well being. The top 10 essential oil and their health benefits are as follows:
  1. Peppermint: boosts energy and aid digestion.
  2. Lavender: relieves stress, improves sleep and etc.
  3. Sandalwood: calm nerves and improves focus.
  4. Bergamot improves eczema.
  5. Rose improves mood and reduces anxiety.
  6. Chamomile: improves mood and relaxes.
  7. Basil: acne problem, anti-bacterial, infection, cough and cold
  8. Tea Tree: fight infection and boots immunity.
  9. Jasmine: help with depression and childbirth
  10. Lemon: aid digestion, headache and etc
My personal favourite essential oils are lavender and basil. I generally use basil oil by diluting one or two drops with coconut or jojoba oil and applying it on the affected area twice daily. I add one or two drops of basil oil in my shampoo to get rid of grease and to add lustrous quality to my hair. 🤩

P.S. 1: This bath bomb is made with natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals, hence it is completely safe for sensitive skin or for children. You don't need to rinse off after using one, but if you used a coloured bath bomb or one with glitters in it, you should consider doing so. While using a bath bomb in a bathtub, you should stay in the bath around maximum 40 minutes.

P.S. 2: I hope you guys like this tutorial, try making it and enjoy a luxurious manicure, pedicure or bath experience. Also, the fizz might be less as compared to the market ones because we haven't used citric acid and Epsom salt.

Thank you,

    1. Even after using 2 packets of Eno, you won't get much fizz. If you want fizz like ones available in the market, try making bath bombs using 1/2 cup of citric acid and 1/2 cup of epsom salt. 😊
