Hands Like A Hand Model

Hello World,

Wondering who is a hand model or what is hand modelling? A hand model is someone who models with their hands. This often means wearing pieces of jewellery such as rings or display cosmetics like nail polish. Hand models do editorial work too, where they pose for a series of photographs to be published in a magazine. They enjoy upsides like free manicures, an opportunity to place their hands on a celebrity's face and etc.

Wanna get hands like a hand model? Follow the five points mentioned below. The following have been picked from famous hand model diaries, along with my own tricks:😉

1. Don't cut your cuticles..!!

Dermatologists say there is no good reason to cut cuticles. Removal of cuticles makes easier for bacteria and germs to get inside. It can also make your nails grow tougher and jagged. Cuticles are roots of nails, hence for beautiful and healthy nails, we need to take care of them. Use cuticle oil/cream and rather cutting them, gently push them back using a cuticle pusher or a wooden orange stick. My personal favourite cuticle oil/ creams are Sally Hansen Cuticle Massage CreamThe Body Shop Almond Nail & Cuticle Oil and Vaadi Herbals Nail & Cuticle Oil. Making your own cuticle oil is also pretty simple, mix one tablespoon of Olive oil, one tablespoon of Almond oil, few drops of your favourite Essential oil and Vitamin E. Store this in a bottle and use every night. Another one is, by mixing 3 teaspoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil, 1/2 teaspoon of avocado oil and few drops of lavender and lemon essential oil.

2.  Buff, Polish and Shine..!!

Buffing can increase blood circulation to the nail bed. Buffing of the ridges gives smoother surface for polish to adhere to. Hold a buffer parallel to your nail, use large grit side of the buffer and buff your nails in an X shape (6-8 strokes). Similarly, use finer grit side of the buffer to polish your nails (only 6 strokes). Use smooth side of the buffer to shine your nails, move the buffer gently using tiny circular motions over the entire surface of your nail until you achieve a glossy look. You can buy a 4-way buffer from NykaaAmazonShein or Flipkart.

3. DIY Hand Scrubs and Masks..!!

Exfoliating our skin and particularly our hands is so important! Our skin shed dead skin cells constantly. Exfoliation removes those dead skin cells to make room for healthy younger cells. Exfoliation softens, detoxifies and improves the skin tone. The best oil for dry hands is Grapeseed Oil. The following are some DIY hand scrubs for different issues:
  • Bright hands: Mix 2 full teaspoons of brown sugar and olive oil. Now wet your hands, take this mixture and exfoliate your hands in a gentle circular motion. Then soak your hands in warm water for 10 mins. Repeat the exfoliation process once again and then wash your hands. This scrub is suitable for skin types and can be used for lips too.

  • Shiny & smooth hands: Take some rosemary and rose petals in a mortar and pestle, do not over grind as we need a rough texture for scrubbing. Now mix this with half a cup of white sugar and few drops of sesame oil. Take this mixture and scrub gently for 2-3 mins. Keep this scrub till it's completely dry and then wash with warm water. This scrub can also be applied on the face.

Soak your hands in the milk-water solution for 3 mins. Now take some white sugar and honey and scrub your hands for 5 mins. Finally, wash your hands with lukewarm water.

Sometimes, lotion and creams alone may not be enough to heal our skin. Using a hand mask can deliver intense hydration and allow its ingredients time to calm irritated skin. You don't have to buy one you can easily make your own at home with ingredients that you already have in your kitchen. The following are some DIY masks for different issues:
  • Detan: Mix 2 spoons of white sugar, 2 tablespoon of yoghurt and few drops of lemon juice. Now take this mixture and apply it on your hands and massage gently for 4-5 mins, keep this until dry and then wash off with warm water. Pat dry using a towel and then use hand cream. You can make your own hand cream by mixing 2 teaspoons of butter and 1 teaspoon of almond oil.

  • Nourishment: Boil 1 potato and peel it, allow it to cool so that you can touch it comfortably. Now mash the potato and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil or sweet almond oil. Mix both nicely and apply it on your hands using a circular motion and let it sit for 15 mins. When it's time, wash it using warm water and then pat dry using a towel. Apply hand cream to lock the moisture.

Apply the mask to your hands and let it sit for 10-15 mins. When ready to rinse off, use a warm washcloth or simply rinse under running water. Pat dry using a towel and then apply hand cream.

Infuse 50 ml of boiled water with a chamomile tea bag. Let the water cool and then remove the teabag. Mix 2 tablespoons of oats and 1 tablespoon of cornflour, then gently pour chamomile tea into it until you have a thick mask-like consistency. Massage this hand mask gently in a circular motion and leave it for 10-15 mins. When it's time, wash off using warm water. Pat dry using a towel and apply hand cream. You can use this mask once a week.

4. Say adios to cracks..!!

If your hands crack or become extremely dry during winters, get a paraffin wax treatment. Clean your hands, apply some lotion or a hand cream. Now dip your hands (or feet) in melted warm paraffin wax several times to form a thick coat, let the wax harden. Cover hands with a plastic and then cover with towel like mittens to keep it warm. After 15 mins or when the wax has completely hardened, crack off the wax. You will be surprised to see your skin so soft and rehydrated. Do not forgot to apply a hand cream later. Simple paraffin wax treatments are also available in market.

5. Follow the Do's and Don'ts..!!

To keep your nails looking their best:
    • Keep fingernails dry and clean. This prevent bacteria from growing under your fingernails. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves while washing dishes or using harsh chemicals like detergent.
    • Practice good nail hygiene. Refer for my Basic Nail Care post for more details.
    • Apply a protective layer. Like applying a nail hardener helps in strengthening the nails. Try using Nykaa Nail Care Range.

    • Ask your doctor about biotin, research says that nutritional supplements of biotin helps strengthen weak or brittle nails.
To prevent damage to your nails, don't:
    • Bite your nails or push your cuticles too much.
    • Use harsh nail products, avoid using cheap brand nail paints as they can stain your nails. When using nail paint remover, opt for one with acetone free formula.
    • Ignore nail problems which doesn't seem to go away on its own. Consult your doctor or dermatologist for an evaluation.
P.S. 1 The above mentioned tips, scrubs or masks won't show desired results in just one use. You have to use it continuously for say 5-6 weeks and so on. After scrubbing your hands, you can massage your hands with vitamin E and olive oil to get flaunt ready polished hands.
P.S. 2 You can use DIY hand scrubs for gifting. You just saw its so simple and inexpensive to make. Just buy cute jars or bottles, fill it with the scrub and then decorate it with some tags and ribbons. You can also pair this with DIY cuticle oil.
Follow the above mentioned points and your hands will be happy. ☺️😇
